"Watching, Witnessing and feeling the pain of war, destruction and crimes against humanity committed throughout the years, built so many emotions in my heart and soul, the only way

to release them was through music." (JM)

Jean Mazmanian is a film maker, music composer, performer and producer, active since the 1990’s. A resident of South Florida, Jean was born in Beirut, from Armenian ancestry. Jean’s family migrated from the Genocide in Armenia during the first World War, to being caught up in another conflict - The civil war of 1975 in Lebanon, which propelled the family to flee again, this time to find safe haven in Europe where Jean attended St. Luc University in Brussels and began his studies in Photo-Journalism. After moving to the United States, he continued his studies at the University of Miami’s School of Theatre with a keen interest in Music Composition. He quickly established himself as a composer by scoring the films and documentaries he produced throughout the years, advocating for Human Rights and the Social Issues dividing us. As a result of his rich cultural background including fluency in 7 languages, Mr. Mazmanian possesses a profound sensibility in absorbing, replicating and mixing the musical influences of many countries and cultures. Weaving in this rich cultural tapestry, and no stranger to the conflicts of mankind, Mr. Mazmanian considers himself devoid of any one single nationality. A true citizen of Planet Earth, he self-identifies as simply an “earthling” unifying the elements of music from all corners of the planet into one sensory emotive journey which delineates a world of peace, love and understanding.

“The WAR TIME Album” is a direct result of the last few years of wars and turmoil both in his ancestral homeland Armenia and the invasion of Ukraine. “I’m a child and grandchild of Genocide survivors, and the scar of such atrocities is a life time wound that will never heal. So all I can do is to try my best in finding solace with my music…and sharing it with the world.” [J.M.]  It’s inspiration is a unifying process. It’s a fusion of instruments from a wide range of countries in the Middle East. We hear violins, oud, oboe, cello and even the duduk (a very ubiquitous Armenian flute). There are also notes of jazz and synthesizers allowing for a New Age sound that is profoundly moving and effective. There are influences of Lebanon, Syria, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Iran and other countries. “Everyone that has heard it, says it takes them to a different place.” (JM) That different place is, in Mr. Mazmarian’s own universe. A world of peace where mankind flourishes.

Dedicated to my friends and family suffering from the consequences of tragic wars both in Armenia and Ukraine.
